Publication: The Essex Magazine
Date: March 2021
The Dream Factory grants dreams to children and young adults between the age of 3 to 25 years, who suffer from life-threatening, life-limiting conditions or have severe disabilities and to date has granted over 504 dreams! Our Kids Helping Kids 2021 Campaign aims to inspire children and young adults across the country to make a positive difference to other children who are not as fortunate as themselves. Helping those that have life threatening or severe disabilities. Through the Campaign, we are encouraging children and young adults to help us make dreams come true by hosting their own fundraising event, activity or challenge.
Oliver Burton, aged 7 and his sister Emilia Burton, aged 5 from Rainham, Essex asked if they could host a quiz for all their friends and classmates from Branfil Primary School in Upminster. Oliver came up with the idea that they could ask friends to pay to enter the quiz with the money going towards The Dream Factory where his Mum Jayne is the part-time Office Administrator and the children had heard about the charity’s Kids Helping Kids Campaign. The children spent a week working hard to put together 30 questions and inviting everyone to their Virtual Quiz of Dreams as part of their Kids Helping Kids Campaign. The quiz took place via Zoom and Jayne and the children were overwhelmed when 32 children including Branfil classmates and children from Somerset & Bedfordshire logged in to join the quiz.
Jayne Burton, Oliver’s mum said, “We are so super proud of Oliver and Emilia, Oliver even gave us £10 out of his own piggy bank. He also sometimes struggles with his reading but he read the questions perfectly and we all had lots of fun. We are receiving nothing but praise from the parents. The questions included topics they have been learning about during home-schooling, such as cold places, planet’s and of course Minecraft, My little Pony and other children’s likes. We are so lucky to have such kind-hearted and generous friends as the quiz raised a massive £659 + £126 in Gift Aid and we still have more donations coming in!
Oliver & Emilia’s teachers have been very supportive and they both received Magic Cards, as a reward for their charitable work in helping other children.”
The quiz was such a success that the following weekend, the children repeated it for one of the Charity’s Dream Makers children and their friends they know from Avanti Court Primary School in Redbridge, and their football teams.
The money raised through the quiz will go towards granting the dream of beautiful 9 year old girl, who has been diagnosed with Battens Disease. She dreams of a break away in the UK to make beautiful memories with her family.
If you would like to do something with your children and help put a smile on another kid’s face, why don’t you join our 2021 Kids Helping Kids campaign and make a positive difference to other children who are experiencing difficulties in their life. Why not challenge your friends, family, school friends, football team or club and arrange your own fundraising event to raise money! Why not get involved and organise a fitness challenge, a sponsored silence, a sing a long or a virtual quiz. Fundraisers can choose whether to support us in general or fundraise for a specific dream. The Dream Factory team are on hand to help with all your ideas and support you along the way. For example, we can help you set up your very own Just Giving Page or send you a personalised sponsorship form. We’ll also help promote your fundraising campaign on social media, and all fundraisers will receive a personalised Thank You Certificate and an update on the dreams that your fundraising has helped to make come true.
Avril Mills, BEM, Founder and Trustee of The Dream Factory said: “This wonderful opportunity will help children understand that some children’s needs are greater than their own, and that their kindness will create unforgettable memories for other families to cherish forever. We are encouraging Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and Carers to join us throughout 2021, raising much needed funds to help us be able to grant more dreams”.
